What it checks, and why it matters
Every rule below comes from the Seller Box policy reference — the platform's own text, with the date we last read it. Undated advice is how listings die.
Amazon caps titles at 75 characters and has enforced it since July 27, 2026 — over-limit titles get rewritten by Amazon's own AI. Etsy allows 140, eBay 80. The counter uses each platform's real limit.
"Free shipping", "best seller", "#1" and friends are banned in Amazon titles and weak everywhere else. The scan is scoped to where each rule actually applies — a "free shipping" line in an Etsy description is legal and normal.
Income promises, medical claims, and "only a few left" on infinite stock. Fake urgency and unbacked claims violate honest-copy rules — and the accuracy rule every platform shares: if it isn't true, it can't be said.
Rewarding reviews or asking for 5 stars breaks platform rules and the FTC's review rule (16 CFR Part 465) — civil penalties run up to $53,088 per violation. The scan catches the phrasings that trigger it.
Etsy requires AI use disclosed in the listing description (Creativity Standards). Other platforms don't require a label — but the accuracy rule still applies, especially to AI-edited photos of physical items.
Etsy allows 13 tags, 20 characters each — over either limit and the listing won't save, or the tag silently underperforms. Duplicates waste slots. Counted exactly, as Etsy counts them.
